A Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) is a software application designed to record and store client-level information on the characteristics and service needs of homeless persons.  Typically, an HMIS is a web-based software application that homeless assistance providers use to coordinate care, manage their operations, and better serve their clients.

Kings United Way partners with the Kings Tulare Continuum of Care to provide HMIS support to transitional housing and shelter providers.

Over the last few years many non-profit organizations have been faced with more requests for services and fewer resources to address those requests.  Without increased financial support, non-profits are looking to volunteer human resources to fill the gap.

“As a United Way organization, we are tasked to support our local affiliate organizations in ways that will have substantial community impact”, states Nanette Villarreal, executive director of Kings United Way.  “In addition to providing financial resources to our affiliates, we are looking to help improve their organizational capacity by providing additional human resources through volunteer support”.

This goal will become a reality with support from Southern California Edison.  Southern California Edison has provided a corporate grant to support Kings United Way’s development of a volunteer program which will benefit communities throughout Kings County.  Southern California Edison strives to achieve its corporate giving mission by focusing on three core areas: expanding educational opportunity; outreach programs to the underserved or disadvantaged; and sustaining a quality environment.

“Southern California Edison is proud of its long-standing support of Kings United Way and prouder still to support its innovative new volunteer program,” said Brian Thoburn, region manager for Southern California Edison.  “The volunteer program is consistent  with Southern California Edison’s corporate support for our underserved communities,” Thoburn continued, “Kings United Way has provided dynamic leadership in meeting the needs of Kings County’s residents and Southern California Edison is pleased to support their efforts.”
